Clutch question

Anyone know what the proper name to this “rod” goes from the transmission to the clutch. Mine is worn out and has play.

clutch release equalizer or clutch release equalizer shaft or some variation of that. Some also might call it the twisty doohicky that disengages the thingamabob inside the transmission

7RT-7503 Clutch Release Equalizer Shaft

Also look for the following:

87907-S8 Lubrication Fitting (1/4" Straight)
352549-S7 Pin (1/4x1.22")
72035-S8 Cotter Pin (1/8x1")

If I continue to use like this, what is the worst thing that will happen
I have a Christmas parade next weekend and if I don’t fix it by then i’m planning on still using the truck like this. Is that a bad idea?

I think the real question is why do you fault the shaft specifically? Is there not possibly an issue elsewhere in the transmission? For the shaft itself, I guess the worse case is that the clutch no longer disengages (so be sure to kill spark and have good brakes!). Should there be a further undiagnosed issue, exploding the transmission may not be out of the realm of possibilities.

When I engage my clutch and slowly let off of it, I hear a clunk whenever I hear the clunk, my clutch somewhat releases on its own, and the truck takes off. I’m trying to narrow down the problem. I am not sure if it is the shaft or where the shaft meets another part bolted onto the frame pictures are below. Sorry for my poor explanation.

Couldn't hurt to remove the transmission floor cover and take a peek through the inspection port and see what is going on in there.

I agree. The truck still runs fine and shifts fine. My only concern is the clunk I hear when releasing the clutch, leading me to believe it may be linkage. As soon as I took a look I noticed that shaft had play and my search stopped there, but I will take your input and look a little further into it tomorrow. Thank you.

Might just replace the bushing once I properly inspect it. Think this is what I need.

The bushings were my first thot. The ball bracket they wrap around can also be worn and might need replaced. There are 2 styles, early and late. Yours is the early style used in 42-47 trucks also.

You may want to check your other linkage from the pedal that has the threaded rod for adjustment. If it is like mine the rod is adjusted to the end.I am planning on extending the rod for more travel.

The clutch hanging up and then releasing suddenly might be caused by a worn bushing as discussed.
I'd check for other issues before driving in a parade with stop and go travel. That won't be fun or safe.

I'm wondering about things inside the bell housing like a throw out bearing thats binding on a rough or rusty shaft. Take the access cover off the bell housing and watch the clutch action while you have someone work the clutch a few times. All moving parts should move smoothly.

Looking at that release lever, you could have several things going on. Taking that off to clean it and install new bushings and a seal would be a good start. The bracket with the marsden nuts, the ball may be worn egg shaped. Doesn’t look to have ever been removed.

As others have said, open up the inspection cover on the trans and see how everything is moving. I have seen bent release forks, worn release housings, etc that add up to big problems but fixable.

the clunk might be your pilot bushing/bearing being worn and letting the input shaft slap around inside of it.
