getting the bed off

I am trying to get the bed off of a 72 f250. I cant get some of the bolts out. The top of the bolt just turns and I cant get vice grips on them. How else can I get them out? Can I take a grinder and cut the top off? I don't think the bolts would slide through the bottom if I did that though. Thanks For any advice. Eric

Either put a tach weld on the head and bed till you free the nut off and grind the weld off when done or torch the nuts off from underneath. Also try using some PB blaster penetrating spray stuff works wonders.

Unfortunatly I don't have a torch. I wish I did. I just may have to invest in one sometime. I sprayed them with liquid wrench last night. I might use vice grips on the threads until I can cut the bolt on the bottom above the nut. Thanks Eric

also el you may consider investing in a nutcracker. They aren't that expensive and do work on things like that.

If you are talking carriage bolts, lift them up with a screw driver and jam the screw driver into the hole and pound the bolt down on top of the screw driver.

If that does not work, use a pry bar or jack to push the bed up against the carriage bolt while you take the nut off with an impact gun.

Sometimes what I do with carriage bolts is lift them up enough with a screw driver to slip a sawzall metal blade in there and cut the head off.

On the last 2 I did I used a gas cut off saw and x'd the top of the bed bolts. Then chisled the last little bits off before I cut into the bed. Probobly took 15 minutes to do them all and I didn't even bleed!
