variations in indicator housing

I bought a brand new stone guard for the 56 from the supplier (Dynacorn) and went to fit the brand new 1956 Mid Fifty indicator housing to it and discovered a couple of interesting differences...

Here's a top view. The old rusty one came with my truck. It was in a pile of old junk bits. I am assuming it is an original 56 indicator frame/ housing. Interestingly enough it bolts up directly to my stone guard. The holes line up perfectly. As you might be able to see with the new shiny one, they are way off, and that extra metal around the light bulb tends to get in the way of the wiring. You actually have to push the wires through to the other side, and while that is no big deal, it does feel like the wires are being forced into a less than natural position. Just one of those things. Nothing to get worried about, but curious just the same. I had to redrill holes to suit the new unit. The nice chrome surround that screws across the lens fits okay (again, not as well as original) but they're okay.
So I am curious to know whether the new one is a 55? As the pack from mid fifty says for a 56, but it's code refers to a 55?
