Wheel hub problems
I have a 2000 X with about 55K miles on it. Sometime after the winter of 2001 (and after the warranty expired) my hubs stopped locking when using the dash mounted switch. I am able to turn them manually, they lock and the dash switch does operate the transfer case.
Has anyone else has a similar problem? I checked to see if the vacuum lines to the wheels are OK and they are. I even pulled off the hubs to see if anything needed "cleaning" since I do alot of sand driving.
Otherwise,I'll buy the repair manual on CD and see if it gives any advice or procedures. Many posts here recommend it.

Yes, I experienced that same problem. Luckily mine was under warranty.
I have never done it but looking at the manual and knowing how to tear hubs apart, I imagine that it wouldn't be hard to pull the hub and clean the inside (if it has sand in it) and while it is apart, to replace the vacuum seal that make the hub engage.
