this adds the bank 1 knock sensor. bank 2 has no knock signal so i assume the issue is on bank 1. just dont know where to go from here.
Thanks again for all the help
I don't have an Expy, so I can't be sure your PCM has the PIDs. My '97 Econoline has them so I assumed a newer vehicle would have them also.
But it does look like you are having more misfires than normal. I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this given the data that is available. Maybe others can help based on their experience.
so my though is that either the injector or compression is an issue on cyl. 3. can i just do a test on 2 and 3 and compart the numbers of a compression test? I know it would not be the actual numbers, but would that show me a difference in compression that i should know if it could be an issue? if they are far apart, i could then do all 8.
Can i check the injector signal with a test light, similar to the coil signals?
can i replace jus one injector?
Thanks
so i went to the pick n pull today and got a couple of injectors. the emissions sticker said it was a 4.6L when i got home and pulled the injector out of the car, they look different. mine look like the ones listed for my car on rock auto. the one i replaced it with looks like the pic from 5.4L
The car now seems to only miss at an idle, i can put it in gear, foot on the brake, and a little throttle and it does not miss.
No one near me has an injector for this engine. so do you think that a full set of injectors would fix my issue? i have an appointment at ford on Monday if i cant fix it,
Thanks again
so today i installed some rebuilt injectors from ebay. they looked the same as the ones i removed, so now both banks are giving rich codes 2196 and 2198. and it is giving pending codes for such. could i have them installed wrong? what do i check? i had no codes at all before changing the injectors, which i have never done before. there is still a rough idle, but no counts on the misfire monitor anymore except for here and there only at idle. the video above was a lot of help but wondering if i messed up something when doing it.
can it take awhile to learn the new injectors?
thanks again for you time and help
What do your long term and short term fuel trims read? Try resetting the LTFT by disconnecting the battery for 10 min. This works on my '97. Your 2003 make require a different procedure.
How long have you run and/or driven the vehicle? The PCM needs time to relearn the fuel trims.
Sort term was about .9 if i remember. i did not do any reset, and drove on the highway for about 30 minutes.
I will go check the LT and ST fuel trim, and disconnect the battery for a while first.
Thanks for the help. i will report back.
Thanks again.
so i think i was confused, 2196 is o2 sensor 1 bank 1 stuck leak. 2198 is o2 sensor stuck rich bank2 sensor 1.
the long term fuel trim is 0 but i disconnected the batter for an hour.
so i took this out for about an hour drive. after a while the o2 sensors started moving and responding. but as soon as i go back to idle, they both go to about .9 V so looks like both are rich?
about to go back to the original injectors on one side and see what happens?
thank you for your time.
I put the original injectors back in it, the miss is back, but the o2 sensors are working again. i will run it for a while and see if the other codes come back.
thank you again.
Amazon can also have sellers of counterfeit parts. Since you are chasing an unknown problem and you don't have lots of experience, you need to eliminate unwanted variables. It makes sense to buy genuine parts in this circumstance, plus you don't want to keep replacing the injectors. But I also don't know if your original injectors are bad...
ok, thank you i will take it in to ford. was just trying to avoid that.
i have misfires, changed the plugs and coils, checked compression on the one cylinder that had the black colored plug, and it was 7% from the one next to it.
did not do all of them. the car has 310,000.
the reman injectors solved the misfire, but created other problems. back to the original injectors, and the misfire is back.
Thank you for your help.
