I really try to be more self-sufficient than to bother y'all, but this is foreign to me- Forscan. Is there a "forscan for dummies" thread somewhere? All the searching and reading I've done has merely confused me even more. What I'm trying to accomplish, on "the wife's" 2011 KR, if these functions are applicable, are:
lower the TPMS threshold to like 45 maybe 50psi
foglights on with high-beam (bambi mode?)
change speedo for 35" (next time will be 33") tires
I think those are all of the "cool" features applicable to the truck, it seems 2011 was somewhat of a fledgling year for the SD? A co-worker was nice enough to lend me his OBD cable he used for his 2020 Godzilla SD to do all the cool windows-up and mirrors-fold and tire calibrator, bambi mode, etc, so I think I've got the cable part covered. I've read about how to get your "as-built" sheet, I'll download that onto a windows laptop at the house, it doesn't like the work mac for some reason. Download the free Forscan short-term license for one-time use? Seems to be the big ticket punch items, I think I've got those 3 covered.
How do I make sense of the spreadsheet? That thing might as well be hieroglyphic
you can set the TPMS to whatever you want if you purchase the FOB from Ford Parts. I dont remember, but I think it was less than $50. I run my truck on the beach frequently and I was constantly having problems with the TPMS warning on the dash after airing the tires back up on my 2011 superduty. That little FOB has been invaluable to me.
So I finally had a few minutes to mess around with Forscan over the weekend. Rather disappointing, if I'm being honest. There just wasn't a lot available to the truck. Didn't need any spreadsheet, the menu options were just "enable" or "disable" Couldn't find anything at all pertaining to "bambi mode", went into every single module, no mention of it at all. I did enable DRL's using the foglights and marker(running) lights, which I'm not sold on, I might tweak that a little. Enabled global windows via remote, whatever that's supposed to do. Holding lock/unlock doesn't roll them down or up, so maybe I'm misunderstanding that feature, idk. I did lower the TPMS threshold, I think. One interesting little glitch I encountered. I "corrected" the tire diameter for the 35's that are currently on the truck, and the "service stabilitrak (or whatever it is) popped on almost immediately. Went back in and saw the tire size options. Had to change from 275/65/18 (stock) to 275/65/20, which then cleared the conflict and the message/light went out. That shouldn't have fixed it, tho, technically speaking. Even a 275/65/20 isn't close to a 35/12.50, but I guess it was closer than a 275/65/18, and that's what the truck wanted.
Forscan has been mis-represented by many as being a vehicle modification/hacking tool. It is not. It's primarily a scan tool best used for repair and diagnosis so you don't have to pay thousands for a professional scanner like Autel and SnapOn. But early on it was noticed Forscan could turn on options found on other Fords in the vehicle family. This includes functions that may have been limited to a geographical area due to local regulations.
Bambi mode is slang used on Forums and spreadsheets . Look for fog light setting and try them to find the Bambi configuration.
Finally, not every setting will work. Extra hardware is often required. Make backups of all modules, especially if you are trying settings without doing any research first. When you eventually have some mechanical or electrical issues you will find the true value of Forscan.
I've been fighting a strange speedometer issue for weeks now, can't seem to figure it out. The truck's speedometer reads almost 5 mph faster than actual, at highway speeds. GPS will show 50, speedo shows 55; GPS 60, speedo reads 65. GPS 70, speedo 75, etc. I've tried every Forscan tire size option available to the truck, even the 225/70/19.5, and I've tweaked the outer circumference field as much as I can without setting a conflicting issue and tripping the "service stabilitrak" error message. Can't seem to get the speedo accurate. I can always adjust to the speed discrepancy, that's not really the problem, but I don't want to be artificially clocking miles on the truck that aren't correct. If the speedo is off, then the odometer is off, and it's logging more miles than it's actually traveled. No bueno. Any ideas what I'm not thinking of?
