Welcome to FTE. You're one of the few that I've talked with that owns a 5.4L equipped Excursion.
The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head would be to change the gear sets to 3.73's. But then I'm afraid you'd have a bit of a dog on yer hands...
The simple things though...
Keep your tires above the "recommended" tire pressure. I run 60psi all the way around but then I have put E-range tires on it and they can hold 80psi. Just bumping yours up will make a small difference.
I'm a firm believer in synthetics. Mobil 1 in the engine and transmission could give some increases (albiet small but anything helps)
Reduce weight. Make sure you keep as much unnecessary weight out of the truck as you can.
Over on the Super Duty forum, guys have posted their results from various aftermarket add-on and whatnot for the 5.4L. Do a search and see what they are doing to help improve their mileage.
Your driving style affects your mileage more than anything else but I'm sure you already knew that...
Thanx for all the info Monsta. If I try some of add-ons I'll post my results.I really got a good deal on this Ex 45000 miles and I paid 19500 or at least I think I did.
I started with a K&N filter,tornado-air and increased tire psi to 5# just below tire specs, mpg around town 11.5 and on the road 13,so it made a little improvement.I thinking about a chip or programmer next. Will post results of that.Total cost of improvement $132.00
