I'm getting an active grill shutters code PO5BO code which is throwing a CEL this has been going on for the last two years but only when warm out above 65 degrees it is now happening at lower temps as well, is there any way to eliminate these grill shutters? as I don't think they really help anyway apparently all they do is help with mileage and my truck is the Powerstroke diesel so it already get great fuel mileage.
I've had mine unplugged (removed) for about 5 years and have never gotten a light. There may be a code store that can been seen with FOrscan (or something like it) but nothing causing a CEL.
It appears this is for the lower shutter sysem.
Here is what a per namedJrock812003posted as a fix for his on another forum:
I have found a "fix". My truck was doing the same thing. I ended up watching the shutters cycle and noticed that they were actually trying to travel past full open. So what I did was go to the front of the truck at the shutters and I put my finger against the housing to where when the shutters opened to full open (not past full open) it would hit my finger and stop.. they stopped and cycled back closed and operated correctly with no cel until I restarted the truck again.. so then I took a screw and ran it into the side housing (passenger side) where I had previously put my finger to create a stop for the center driven shutter to hit to give it a "full open limit". They have not thrown a cel since.. my guess is that the actuator has to see a certain amount of moment along with a resistance at a stop to calibrate correctly during each start.. I'm guessing the factory stop had broken off of the louver and creating a new one with the screw solved the issue
I also have a 2018 diesel and went through this for a few months. To my knowledge you can not bypass the system by just unplugging it. I ended up doing as noted above and kept fiddling with the louvers until I got the system to function properly.
