Hey all. I finally got my dash lights working and I still really see much with them even with a new headlight switch at full bright. The brightness adjustment works fine, but they're still dark.
What is everyone's thoughts about replacing the dash bulbs with LEDs so they're actually effective? Any issues with heat or wiring problems? They're 194 bulbs.
I'm also having an issue where the dome light is melting the plastic cover. Any replacement bulb without that issue that I can get?
I bought mine from this guy (F100 Fasteners) on e-bay: F100fasteners | eBay Stores He has a lot of good products for our trucks including the dimmable LED dash bulbs and the LED dome light.
High quality leds generally put out less heat than old school incandescent bulbs. The dome lens was melted in my bump when I got it. I replaced the bulb with a brighter led and made a new lens from a piece of milk carton. No problems after 4 years.
On the 80's trucks the dash lights have a colored cap that fits over the bulbs to give that greesnish color.
Over the years they get cloudy and dirty and cant pass any light.
Dont think you can get new ones so most just remove them and go with a colored LED

Excellent , if these are reliable .
I have read some reviews etc ...some led's are junk ! Something to do with heat and design/quality of some brands . Do F100fasteners leds last ?
To be clear , leds claim to last several thoundsands of hours . I hear many do not
I bought some cheap ones on Amazon years ago and installed them on my '65 Mustang. MAJOR difference and don't look too out-of-place. Just nice and bright.
