I recently purchased a '76 F250 hiboy. The cab was in OK shape, but the bed was pretty rough. So, I yanked the old bed and mounted a really sweet flatbed my son built in high school metal shop. Now, I'm thinking a couple of stainless or polished aluminum saddle tanks would look pretty good.
Any ideas where I could find a pair of 25-30 gallon cylindrical tanks?
I don't know for sure but you are probably going to pay a pretty penny for some stainless tanks like that. Why not get some aluminum ones and polish them? They are pretty light weight and look comparable to stainless. They require more work to keep them looking good, but the weight factor is still a plus. Most of them I see used on most semi trucks are the round cylindrical type, so if you are looking for something like a rectangle or square you may have to look harder. I think the round type are easier to mount with the brackets made for them than the rectanglular type have made for them.
I was thinking about kegs, but they are only 15.5 gal. If they were layed on thier sides I think I could only get 12-13 gal. Not quite what I was after.
I was just looking in JCW and I could not find the tanks the VW used. They were polished aluminum.
Not being a beer drinker I did not know how many gallons they held.
You could always go to a big truck salvage yard and see if any of those side-saddle diesel tanks are available. I see those in polished alum all the time.
