it was in the Truck when i got it, so it was functional. It just has less amount of adjustment... if needed.

My bet is that one came loose and the threads were ruined, so someone cut the bad area off, and added the adapter piece on the end.

Seems like something i would do. Why spend money when you can use that bucket of fittings you have been hoarding for years instead.
