Strange, my F350, 2 Town cars, 2 Grand Marquis and 2 Escorts, 8 Xr7. all came with the CII pump. The Taurus, that the one noisy one. Did a complete flush 2 times and was good. All stock tire sizes though. Agree if you do big tires and hydro boost you may need more. A small cooler may be all you need. Do what you feel you need to, it's your truck.
Pastortom1 I do not know anything about YOUR truck, other than your p/s pump is a growler, according to you. I am talking about cb13's truck, which I use to own....
If the Saginaw pumps didn’t fail I wouldn’t already own the special tool to remove and install the pulleys on them. Which I now need to use on my current truck 🤦🏻♂️
In my personal experience the Ford pumps are noisy and provide less assist but the GM Saginaw pumps just outright fail more frequently. Pick your poison.
I’ve had zero issues with the Saginaw pumps… in my Pontiacs etc…
I did rebuild one and did the Saginaw conversion on my 77. Get the correct style keyed shaft Saginaw pump and you don’t need a puller to get the pulley off. I did a full write up when I put mine in my truck. It’s been about 7 years now and no issues.
When I put EFI era 460's in my two 79 Broncos, I got the factory Saginaw pumps and brackets from E-series vans. They do seem happier and quieter, although I've never had much of an issue with the Ford pumps. This was just too easy to pass up.
I have a 460 out of a Lincoln in my 74 250. Has anyone ever bought the aluminum Saginaw PS brackets that you find when you do a Google search? Also there’s one from CVF Racing. These are less expensive than buying an old bracket from an E series (unless you stumble on one at the junkyard). Those E series brackets command a small fortune online.
I’m just tired of dealing with the stock Ford pump. I replaced all the lines and it’s still leaking…and the pump was replaced by the PO. I hear nothing but good things about the Saginaw pumps.

Thanks
I bought one of the CVF bracket kits to put the Saginaw pump into my truck.
My truck had the original Ford power steering pump. Truck had 33’s on it when I got it. The stock pump didn’t want to turn the tires when you turned the steering wheel unless you gave the gas pedal a small push to bring the rpm up some more to give the pump more pressure. The Saginaw pump puts out more pressure than the Ford pump does. Like 77/79 F250 says….easy peasy!
I won’t go back to the Ford pump.
I did pick up another 460 engine for a rebuild down the road and it had all the factory brackets with a Saginaw pump on it from Ford.

Thanks! What pump & pulley did you end up going with? I want to do a new pump, not remanufactured. How has it worked out for you?

I think the ultimate powersteering set up for our trucks is going to be a reworked "Redtop" power steering gear box and a reworked saginaw pump by "Turn one", That way you can dial in the exact pressure tailored to your needs Tire size and weight so you have adequate pressure without overpressurizing and reducing the life of your brand new pump. Adding hydro boost if your hauling weight or increasing the overall weight of the truck is definitely worth the time and money.

It’s the standard Saginaw pump. Get the one with a keyed shaf and a nut that holds the pulley on. Then you don’t need a pulley puller to get the pulley off if you decide to change it etc…
My pump did work fine but I did buy a rebuild kit for like $30 and rebuilt it anyways. It’s super easy to do. I did a write up on here about it.
I also have hydro boost brake set up on my truck as well.
For the winter I did put a Western plow set up on the truck as well. No issues with turning the tires and all that extra weight on the front end.
