Hot regulator
79 f150 is draining the battery. The regulator is getting hot enough that you don't care to touch it long. I have changed regulators and still have the same problem. This is happening when the key is off. If the regulator is unplugged it stops draining.

X2 take the alternator off and get it bench tested at the auto parts shop. Be ready to purchase another one. Or you have a elec wiring issue with your the circuits that stay hot with the key off. Dome light, brake lights, 4 way flashers, cig lighter, glove box light. Ignition switch to starter wiring via the battery.
