I have an 87 f150 that i want to manual swap. The truck only goes 60-65mph hoping i can get a little more top speed with manual swapping it.. what would be the best manual transmission that would fit flush onto the 300ci efi inline 6 thats relatively cheap.
and what all will i have to convert on the truck to do so..
The easiest and cheapest thing would be to change axle ratio. What ratio do you have now, 4.11? The sticker on the drivers door jam will give an axle code. If you can't decode it, post a picture of the sticker and someone will tell you exactly what you have.

No way it's a 3.08. My old 66 f100 with a 3 speed and 3.25 rear and slightly oversized rear tires would run 70 at around 2500rpm. You have a have a 4.11 or something around there if you can't go faster than 65.
My '87 has 3.08 with 30" tires (30x9.50x15), and can run 75 without too much of a strain on the rpms. 70 mph is still under 3000, around 2700 I think. I have a NP- 435, 4 speed direct transmission.
