tansmission issues
I am the original owner of a 2015 AWD SE Eco boost Escape with 1.6L engine, with 108 K miles. I got an engine warning light "transmission fault, service now", the car was not engaging so I pulled over & had it towed to an independent shop. They diagnosed the problem as internal damage to the transmission. They told me that I would need a new transmission. The fluid was black, which I know is not good. They mentioned that this was a common problem with ford transmissions for the years 2013-2018. I was shocked to say the least as I had always had my vehicle serviced at a dealer and at no time did the dealer mentioned changing the transmission fluid to prevent this kind of problem. I would have thought that if the warning light came on it would not be at a moment of catastrophic failure. Am I confused? Has anyone else had this problem? Any input is truly appreciated. Thanks.
