Dewalt Impact Gun

My 20V Dewalt impact gun doesn't have the power it used to. Could this be due to weak batteries or is it time to replace it? I'd guess it's about 6-7 years old.

could be either one, or a combination of both.

Are you saying that the batteries are 6 - 7 years old? If so, they are definitely on borrowed time. That would be my first check.

Is this a new issue? Did you try different batteries? how much torque does your impact have vs. what you are trying to do? Was the battery charged? Do you use this often, never, etc.? could be either battery or tool but if used together a lot they tend to die together.

More than likely the batteries are on the ghost side by now. If the first use on a fresh charge has oomph but quickly looses out, batteries 100%.

I've never been a fan of DeWalt tools but even so I'm doubting the OP's issue is weak or failing batteries. Typically a weak or dying battery that undergoes "heavy" usage like in an impact would run low quite quickly, take longer to full re-charge or just no longer charge at all. Like most cordless tools its the batteries that are the weak link and typically the more expensive part of any one brand name system,

Being honest I use and recommend Milwaukee especially the M18 series for impact tools, M12 for tools not used as often as a 1/2" impact.
