I am in the planning stage for my a.c. install. It a 64 292. I've been thinking about the control panel as well as the rest of it and making things fit.
if anyone has already done the following, please let me know how it turned out and what you had to overcome.
My thought is to use the existing controls for air, heat etc and reroute the cables to work the a.c.
Has anyone been able to make this work? The idea being to not have more controls that now. I have existing heat and I have controls that I don't use or even know what they are for but they are cables.
I am not up on your year truck but as a guess they did not come from the factory with AC so it was a dealer install.
With that said there would be extra controls for the AC along with controls for the factory heat.
So that leaves you with do you try and find a add on like the dealers did or do a full replacement system?
I would think a full replacement would be the way to go and replace your factory controls with the new systems controls.
I would also think the new controls dont use cables that could bind and stop working.
But lets see what others have to say.

ps I added factory AC to my 81 F100 and as I started found out the firewalls are different between AC and non-AC factory trucks.
I grafted the parts truck AC firewall into my truck so the factory AC would bolt in.
That is not for everyone LOL
There are other considerations regarding the controls which operate a new A/C system. There are no cables as everything is electrically operated in addition to the thermostat, fan controls and other aspects that I can't recall. Not sure exactly what you would be gaining other than minimizing the collection of controls. So...get rid of the originals.

That's a beautiful dash. I wasn't planning on customizing/altering mine any more than possible. The complete kits that I found online have the option of mechanical or electronic controls. I wanted to leave and use the ***** that it has and just repurpose them.
