Hey all. Had a quick question. My cab mounts on my 86 f250 are shot. I have the cab and the bed off the frame and was wondering how to go about changing the cab mounts. Can I just grind the rivets off and use grade 8 bolts or is there another better way to go about this. Tyia
Do they sell new cab mounts? I know they sell new spring and shackle frame brackets. I have done this many times. I find the easiest way is to take a small drill bit and drill down the center of the rivet head. Then get a larger bit that is a little larger than the rivet shank (about 7/16 or so) and drill down till you are even with the frame. Then you can take a big chisel and a hammer and easily knock the head off. And then another round punch to punch the rivet out of the frame.
3/8 grade 5 bolts will work, 7/16 will fit tighter but you might have to ream the hole a little bit.
My cab mounts where rotted on top of the bracket. I just took a small piece of metal and welded it on the top of the bracket and drilled a new smaller hole for the body mount bolt.
