Newbie with questions

I am going to be selling my 2000 Lariat PSD soon and will be replacing it with either a Ranger2300 or B2300.

I still don't know whether or not I should buy new or used.
I only want a new pickup for the peace of mind that I have maintained my truck well from the get-go.

Anyways, I was wondering....

What are the differences between the Ford and Mazda if any?
Should I buy Ford or Mazda?
If I decided to buy used, what years should I try to avoid?
What are the weak points of the truck?
What is typical gas milage for some of you veterans out there?
I will be buying a 5speed, any one have any major problems with it? What is the name of the tranny?
How's do these trucks handle?
I plan on keeping this truck for a long time...are these proven, reliable trucks? How many miles do some of you veterans have on your trucks?
Should I buy new? Dealers these days are giving good rebates and discounts on new 2003's.

Thanks.
BTW... I am new to FTE. Lots of great stuff and good people!

Welcome to FTE austinpower !!

This is one of those occasions where the best way to answer all your questions is with one answer:

"Search around in the archives."

It's the second little blue button from the right - near the top of this page.

I think that will give you some excellent source information. And enough of it to clearly see the trends for maintenance and repair of all the years/model variations you mentioned for yourself.

Again, Welcome!

Welcome to FTE!!!

I like buying new too. The only real differences between Ford & Mazda are the appearance and warranty. You may find the 4 banger under-powered compared to the PSD. Do a search on gas mileage, there are a few long threads here on the topic.

You can either do a search like the others have suggested, or you can go here:
http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/n...x.cfm/id/37566 for new or here:
http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/u...ex.cfm/id/2306 for used. I used this guide to help me when I bought my Ranger. Hope it can help you!

Just curious austinpower, why would you want to get rid of a PSD?

I have no idea on the mileage of a 4 banger, but my 3.0 V6 gets 500 km per tank. Decent power only when you stand on it, but pretty good all around.

Thanks Maticuno!

bigrigfixer,
Good question. Why do I want to get rid of my "semi?"
I just got married 2 weeks ago. I also just graduated in 2001 with 2 master degrees in EE, so I need to get rid of some debt including a $30k student loan. It doesn't help that my wife likes to keep the house at 30degrees during the summer, and at 90 degress during the winter.

I love my PSD and I hate the thought of selling it.

Some of my buddies suggested getting rid of the wife instead!
