Pulled into the garage tonight, and the truck stinks like ammonia......bad. No CEL or anything that might indicate a urea injector stuck open. What could be causing this? The DPF did say "full", just as I was pulling in the garage, but it didn't have enough time to initiate a Regen.
I remember with my old 6.0, when you got a wierd smell, that meant you were about to lunch an egr cooler. But I have no idea what this could be
The smell is painfully strong but especially during active regenerations. If this is the first time, it might take a few drive cycles for the crystallization to begin forming on the exhaust tips. When my DEF injector had to be replaced, I don't recall any DTCs related to the DEF system and I drove with the problem for a while. It was during a time I did have a sporadic DTC for a failing #5 injector and that was the only DTC.
If you can't find a leak anywhere, maybe wait to when you do have an active regeneration to see if the smell is as strong or worse. I found the worst of the smell was right before the exhaust system was fully heated, EGT14 around 900-1,000°F where normal for mine was >1,150°F.
