Clutch pedal?

My clutch pedal is acting weird. Been that way since I bought the truck. When i press the pedal down and then let it back up easily, it wont come all the way up. It stays about 2 inches lower. I then have to kind of blip it up with my foot. But when I'm going at a decent pace with the truck and I shift, it comes all the way up? I dont know how else to describe it. the clutch works fine though. Any thoughts?

The clutch is out of adjustment. Too much play in the linkage. Under the truck there is a threaded rod that goes between the clutch fork and the pivoting arm. Loosen the lock nut, turn the other nut so you have about 3/4 inch of play in the peddle, tighten up the locking nut.

The return spring under the dash could be broken also.

check the nylon bushing for wear on the clutch linkage under the truck, also might need to grease these parts, I greased mine when it was doing the same thing and it worked fine.

Mine 79 does that too. Exactly as you describe. If you tap it from the back with your toe, it pops all the way up, so I think the spring is still there. I only use it for a plow truck in the winter so I never bothered to fix it. Perhaps this weekend.

My truck has recently developed the same problem. Before I put it on the road I re-bushed the clutch rod after welding up and re-drilled the lever under the dash and the z-bar (the holes were extremely elongated).

The spring under the dash seems to be OK. I believe my problem to be a weak return spring under the truck. It was half "sprung" when I had it off so I'm almost 100% sure thats the problem.

Guess I'll have to strap a bungee to mine.

You know K. that bungee cords are a pretty sophisticated fix. Me, I like using old cut up innertubes from the bicycles I ran over...

I agree with Neverenough, I had the same situation, and adjusted the clutch, and it's been fine. Just make sure that the locking nuts are not working themselves loose, give them a good turn into each other.
