I would go ahead and just replace that worn out pump unless you want to replace the pump, tank, and lines later on, when its all nasty from old rotten gas. Much easier to just keep everything working.

Not too long after I bought the ‘94 I replaced the pump because I thought it was too loud. The new pump was almost as loud. As long as the pump is putting out enough pressure I would keep using it until you have time to replace the pump. You definitely do not want to let that gas sit in the tank for a long time.

Thanks for the tips guys. I plan on going on a three hour trip in this truck and I wouldn't mind having the back tank for a back up. As far as the tank and lines I don't plan on replacing them because all of them are still in pretty good condition. It's just the pump that whines loud. I can hear the pump running at idle on the front but not when accelerating. Reason I think the back one is on it's way is I could hear it whining while accelerating all the way up to 40 and when it was idling outside my house on the street I could hear it from there and I already have a pretty loud exhaust on. Almost as bad as the famous ford power steering whine lol. If all goes well I plan on pulling off the box to do some maintenance and fix that back pump this winter. Should I go ahead and replace both pumps or just leave the front one while it works? Front one works perfect and haven't had any issues with it. Thing that kills me on this truck is that it wasn't well maintained before me for a few years. I did a carfax report on it and the truck was originally in SD but was in a rollover to my surprise. I wouldn't ever have guessed it was so whoever did it must of did a good job because the report said it was a fairly bad one. After that it somehow ended up in an auction and made it's way to KS. Because of the rust I wondered if it sat in water or snow when the rollover happened. Report said it was on December sometime in the 00's. Truck is pretty crusty in places which I thought was normal but it really doesn't seem like it sat outside a lot. The paint is beautiful and not a single spot of clear coat peeling. I'd say that's pretty good for a 29 year old truck with 142,000 miles and climbing by the day.

This comes down to those 4 expensive words we all know. "While you're at it..."

Are you gonna pull the bed off to get to the fuel pump to replace it? While you're at it, you may as well swap the other fuel pump since its so easy to get to at that point.
Oh, you got the bed off? While you're at it, you may as well paint the frame.

Those 4 words are what snowball a $100 repair into a $20k restoration if you aren't careful.

Lol yeah one things leads to another. Probably ain't a bad idea in all honesty. I mostly wanna see what I have going on with wiring and suspension mostly because the wiring in 50/50 on this truck and I've been thinking about doing a F250 spring swap along with air shocks.

When I first bought my 95 F250/5.8/MAF/E4OD/2WD/Long bed, I got about 17mpg at freeway speeds [60mph]. Once I dropped the Kenne Bell supercharger and a few other mods, it dropped to 15-16mpg. Towing my 5th wheel, on a good run, I get about 5mpg.

I have seen 500 miles using both tanks, but that was a really long time ago. When I am towing, I start being concerned at about 200-250, depending on the passes I run into.

I think you misunderstood the comment from TexasGuy. He was saying if you let that gas turn to sludge then you will end up replacing kore than just the pump assembly.

I would only replace the rear FDM. I see no reason to replace a good working pump. Which the questionable quality of new parts, you never know how long the new pump is going to last.

The goofy thing about mine and maybe it's just the gearing but I can go on three hours of highway and still have around a quarter tank left when I reach my destination. When it comes to driving around town it's HORRIBLE on gas. I even bought a Ranger that needs a tranny I plan on using just to get better milage in town. I have a shop across town and in two days I had to fill up again because I was already at half a tank from only driving in town. I drove maybe 25 miles worth in those two days. When I mean city driving I mean I wasn't going above 30 mph. I drove back and forth around a dozen times in the two days. When it comes to interstate driving it's even worse. I once did two hours worth of interstate driving all together and burned a tank and a half. Now I did have a pretty heavy cabinet in the box but not enough that I think it would cause that kind of mpg. Safe bet I have a sensor acting up somewhere from the sounds of what you guys are getting. Maybe it's just my set up or driving but I would think that a 5.8 wouldn't drink that much gas. I guess I shouldn't complain because my 76 F150 with a 360 FE got like 6-8 mpg and it was going to be my daily before the engine went lol.

My truck gets a little better than 10 mpg, short trips with a lot of stop and go. If i really baby it, and can live without the AC I can get 12 mpg.

When I have taken it for long trips it will get about 16 mpg cruising around 70 mph.

Keep in mind there may be several gallons of gas in your tank that are below the pump pick up.

The most amount of fuel burned is during acceleration. Once you are moving, the work load is much less.

I think I figured mine before and it was getting 10-12 mpg but that was when I first got the truck over a year ago. Do you guys think I have an issue somewhere or just an old truck doing old truck things? No engine light or trouble codes of any kind. She feels strong but it has almost 143k miles I think. Definitely over 141k I know that much. Has pulled trailers off and on in its life. I haven't pulled anything heavy but I do use a 16 ft flatbed for hauling mowers I find and tree limbs time to time. I run 3.55 diff gears and an E4OD.

I have an F350 with pretty much the same combo... Standard cab, 5.8L, E4OD, 4x4 and have been going through it for the last couple of weeks. I noticed one of your mods is a "Lightning EEC"? What is that? Is there anything not typical with that EEC compared to the standard Ford model?

I am using a computer from a 1st generation Lightning. It is a better match to my build.
