Changing to higher load range tires
Very new here and I have a question I hope can be answered.
I have a '91 F-250 with the fuel injected 460 and 4:10 rearend and auto tranny.
From what I understand, the rearend is the same for the 250 and the 350. I also see from the specs that the 250 can pull just as much as the 350.
My problem is that I want to increase the drive axel capacity on my 250 as it is a fantastic truck that has never given me any problem. It has 102,000 miles and does not drop any fluids on the driveway nor does it use any.
I have been pulling 5th wheels with this truck for the past 6 years and the only thing that I am unhappy about is the drive axel weight limit.
I was wondering if it was possible to replace the load E tires with the load G tires which would give me quite a bit more capacity. This would be roughly 7500 pounds instead of the 6000 I now have. This is still less that a 350 would have with DRW.
Hope you guys have an answer.
Thanks,
Michael
I did want to get away from almost maxing out the "E" tires as I have already blown one out going down the road with the 5th wheel hitched and that 10 ply tire does a lot of damage when it goes ! Yes, It was a good tire and I watch my air pressure very close and I generally do a steady 60 MPH.
I can do without adding more weight, just wanted to not worry about another tire blowing on me.
Michael
