Hey guys, I have a non working speedo on my 84 F-250, 460w/auto trans. While looking for replacement cables I can get with or without ratio adapters. It has cruise control. Where do I find the ratio adapter on my truck, if I have one?
As far as I know, ratio adapters are little aftermarket gearboxes to fudge how the speedo reads.
The original cruise control used a short speedo cable that came out into the engine compartment. Usually it ended up somewhere underneath the brake booster area. Screwed into the end of this short speedo cable was a signal generator that sent a speed signal to the cruise control brain box. Then another speedo cable screwed into the other side of the signal generator and that continued on underneath the floorboard, along the driver's side frame rail and went into the trans or the transfer case where the gears are to spin the cable.
You should find replacement cables for trucks with cruise are shorter than ones without cruise.
