Power steering burping

Hello everyone! I have been running the power steering pump depicted below for several years now. It works well, however, if I fill it until the fluid shows on the dipstick it will burp fluid out the fill tube. This happens especially if I turn the wheel at all while the truck is stationary, not in motion. I am pretty certain...I would say very certain that there is no air in the system. I bled/purged it exactly like the instructions sent to me when Redhead built the gearbox, with the wheels off the ground. Also, verified the correct procedure by searching threads here on FTE and online. The PS works very well, although I would say it is a little noisy, emitting a "Ssshhhh" sound when the steering wheel is turned. But I have also read that is normal for this pump. Anybody have experience to share?? If I let the fluid go down to about 1/2" below the fill tube, it doesn't spit up, but neither will the fluid register on the dipstick. Thanks!!

This would be my guess since it seems you have more fluid returning than going out.
I would check the outlet fitting and hose for a restriction. The swishing or hissing is the pressure relief valve. I have the same PS box, but I use a CII pump and the only time it makes any noise is when I hit the steering stops.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check for sure, but I think I'm o.k. in that regard. I took a lot of time setting up the hoses and connections...but a logical thought. Thank you...

I have the same Thompson pump. In the beginning I would fill it to the line on the dipstick and it would puke it out. I finally let it puke out what it didn't want and left it. That was 8 years ago and haven't had a problem since.

...thank you, Christmas! Sounds like the strategy I've taken for the last few years. Maybe that's the ultimate answer.

I had this book marked and lost it. Took a while to find it again. I have had a bunch of cars with the Thompson pump and none of them pushed fluid out. Something is going on to cause that. I always add a cooler to the return line. Ford seemed to use coolers on some vehicles and not others. What Everyone Should Know About Their Ford Pump (stangerssite.com)
