1981 F250 HVAC stuck on vent.

I have a 1981 F250 with factory A/C. Regardless of setting air only blows out the vents. I have no defrost, mix, or floor. The control lever moves with the same resistance it always has.

I'm not sure if it's vac or cable operated. I can't find anything specific to this year. Does anyone have any diagrams or pictures showing the controls inside the dash?

Thank you for any help.

P.S. There was a mouse in the dash and glovebox but I'm not sure if that's when this started.

Factory AC only has 1 cable everything else works by vacuum.
There is a door or flap that moves to send air to the vents or defrost or floor and the hinge is plastic and breaks over time.
I wonder if that is your problem? Most of the time it breaks on defrost.
Only way to know is to pull it apart and check.
I think you can get to it if you pull the glove box.
Do a search for defrost vent door as there had to be something posted on it.
I also know someone makes a 3D printed one with a better hinge check ebay for it if you need one.

That's exactly what I need and far more detailed than I could have imagined. Thank you!

It was a comfy 72 in my easy chair when I was posting on my tablet...

OP, don't be intimidated by all the details in that guide. Much of that was for upgrading the hinge after removal. If you read through ahead of time and know what to expect, you'd only need about an hour for removal, and another for installation. Get that 3D-printed door and you could be back in business fairly quickly.

I'm sick of this heat. I can't even enjoy the morning and evening because of the mosquitos.

It seems pretty straight forward. The only thing that worries me is reaching in to reinstall the door. You said there was very little space and I have pretty big hands.

Glad you have pretty hands. Mine are fairly ugly.

As far as their size being a problem, here's one idea:

Grrr, looks like YouTube has changed some setting to prevent auto loading. Click on the blue text above the black box to play.

I don't see any blue text above the video box. What's directly above the black box is part of your comment "As far as their size being a problem, here's one idea:" Is there some setting here that I need to change?

Nah, don’t worry about it. The dead link was just a cheap joke to the baby hands scene in Deadpool.

"I'm sick of this heat. I can't even enjoy the morning and evening because of the mosquitos."
He11 it has been so hot here we dont have them, morning or evening.
When I go to work between 12am & 3am when I open the door the heat and humidity just hits you and I dont fell like going to work.
I have to be out side dragging 20 ft 4in hose to off load 25 to 26 tons powdered cement that takes an hour to hour and a half sometimes in the dun watching gauges. It is even worst if I am doing LP Gas as I have to wear heavy PPE and drag 2 hoses!
