Hello, I’m having issues getting my 86 f250 with a 6.9idi to run. I’ve replaced the fuel pump and return lines and tees as well as the air filter and still haven’t figured out the problem. Even with starting fluid it only sputters. I know people have said to bypass the fuel/water separator but I’m not sure how to do that. Does anyone have any instructions for that or any other ideas of what it could be? I’m new to diesels and out of ideas. Thank you!
how much fuel is in your tanks ? it's common for the fuel intake (shower head ) to break off and if you go below 1/2 tank it can't get fuel,
do you get fuel out the schrader valve at the filer ?
I'd start there, if you have fuel it sounds like a IP issue
if you don't have fuel start working it backwards, pull the line from the filter and put it in a jar and crank the engine, does it fill with fuel ?
To confirm air intrusion, you can put clear tubing in place of the last return line at the injector caps, and at the return outlet from the filter head, and then look for air bubbles. If you confirm air intrusion is occurring before the high-pressure injector pump, another source (in addition to the fuel pickup, the lift pump, and the fuel-water separator) could be the tank selector valve.
I’ve already bypassed the selector valve and I’m running off a full midship tank. I’m pretty sure the issue is the ip so I’m going to pull the check valve and clean it as well as checking my fuel shutoff solenoid
