what suspension failed?
Let me clarify what the suspension threads are all about. When new guys find FTE they most often have questions about changing to an IFS on their truck. One of our esteemed members thought it would be helpful if we could compile data on the different types of IFS used on our trucks, then refer new guys to the threads to give them an overview of what is out there.
The overviews were prepared as objectively as possible... opinions were not presented, just facts as we know them.
The thread that you read follows:
NOTE - While there have been (approx. 5) failures documented on this and (more so) other forums, the actual cause of said failures has not been properly/fully determined. They could be due to inferior components, poor installation, severe use or ???.
The authors and editors of this statement do not intend to pursue this, as it says, the determination is not properly nor fully stated in the documentation. Opinions on this must be found elsewhere, it just doesn't fit the overview purpose. Best. Himmelberg
Sorry if we sound like we are being evasive. I hope that fairness is a better characterization. For example, I have seen documentation (pictures) of a failure of a Heidt's kit. They happen to be one of the big boys in the MII kit market. They undoubtedly have many thousands of satisfied customers. We simply just don't have the data to tell you to avoid their kits. Hard to say for sure why it failed. You should do thorough research. Some of the kits appear to be much more heavy duty than others.
Of the MII kits I have seen. Heidts, TCI and Scotts appear to have a quality product. Take this for what it's worth. I have seen and touched these IFS in F100s. I have personally installed none of them.
