Speed control question

Good morning!
I searched through some old threads but didn't really find what I was looking for. I have a '96 F250 with the 7.5l and E4OD and the speed control IS working. My question is, what might make the module lag? Example: when traveling down the highway, I set the speed control but then might have to kick it out for various reasons and then when I resume, it takes probably a minimum of 5 seconds to take control again. Sometimes it even takes longer for the module to take over if I use the accelerator to gain speed and then hit the resume button. I also have a '94 F150 with a 5.8l and E4OD which doesn't have that lag time.
Is the module on its last leg? Is there some way to "lube things up" or clean something?

With the right scan tool you can test the pids from the switches (the circuit goes through the horn contacts)
The module is not the fault IMO
Try moving the steering wheel around some while hitting the resume switch
Look into cleaning or replacing he steering wheel horn contact plate. You need the 3 contact type, the one with cruise control
Those horn / cruise contacts need to be lubed with dielectric grease when you are done cleaning them off or they will squeak.
Good luck

I'm guessing the CC cable is mal adjusted. The 5 second delay is just the time it takes for the CC servo to wind up the cable and start opening the throttle. Your CC servo might be gummed up with old grease and operating slow, also.

Good evening again!
So just a quick update; I removed the speed control module, removed the cover/circuit board, cleaned out the servo motor and gears with contact cleaner and blew everything out. Nothing seemed gummy or sticky on the inside but I felt better knowing I went through it. Then I thought, I'm going to pull the module off my '94 and see if they're similar. Well, they are but I didn't clean the inside out like the one from the '96, I just mounted it up and went for a spin. And it's a night and day difference! I got up to speed, pressed ON and SET and in about 1 second, the module was holding my speed. I kicked it out, slowed down about 5 mph, pressed RESUME and within 1 second it was taking over again! So, long story short, the module off my '94 is way more responsive. Just thought I'd share my experience with everyone. That is all.

Odd failure mode, thanks for reporting back. You can source a used servo from millions of F/L/M vehicles in this era.

The servo assembly is the same, it's the cable that is different between models. Swap your cable onto the donor.
