Hello Nebraska. My first post. Been waiting for approval as I didn't know if I could post or not. But today I was perusing BigIron auction site and ran across a few FE parts for sale this week out in Sumner and a really solid 69 dually in Neighly. Figured I'd pass the leads along to anyone local. There were quite a few 9 inch center sections with posi, some 3 carb intakes for FE's and some manifolds I believe. Wasn't sure if I could post the links up or not.
Hey T.C....welcome aboard...the Nebraska Chapter...like most...only has a few that post regularly...I'm one of them. Hope you enjoy your visits...and...that FTE has been helpful to you!!!
I'm sure I'll pop in and out depending on what I'm working on and yes it's nice to have an active forum. Facebook groups are great and all but unwieldy and impossible to follow a build, search etc.
I've steadily been working on the 71 the past few weeks so that I can at least drive it to work one day yet this fall before it's parked for the winter. I'd also like to get it decentish before the car show in our town on Oct 1. My wife thinks I'm nuts since the truck isn't in that great of shape but I want it to show up to that particular car show year after year so someone can see what working progress looks like. I'm all for someone blowing a vehicle apart and fixing it up super nice but I'm not that guy. I lack patience. I want to drive the stupid things, which is why I'll never own anything super nice but I can enjoy it. A year ago that truck was sitting in a tree row...
My 96 is solid and reliable. I've just been picking away at it the last 6 years. It was my Grandpas who passed in 2010, Grandma kept the pickup until she decided to sell it to me in 2017. It was used occasionally during that period so it wasn't continuously sitting. I got it and over the few years of owning it thought the head gasket was out which I finally confirmed 2 years ago that ended up being a cracked head. The check engine light had been on for years before grandpa passed and even as a mechanic he stated it wasn't an important code. It was a catalytic converter code. I bought all the parts last year but due to depression and time didn't get done until this spring. My daughter passed away last January so I was fighting that mentally, still do, just have to remind myself that. The truck was good for a couple months and now I'm getting incorrect airflow codes so I need to dig into that on the air injection system also because it can the AC started leaking this year. I added some 134 a few weeks ago and noticed again this last weekend it was cycling . Tomorrow I'll throw a can of dye in it and see what it needs there. The radius arm bushing have been out for years too. I've been trying to get everything else up to snuff before dinking with those. I keep telling myself "next spring" but something else always pops up. That truck too get parked as soon as the snow flies. It's super solid with 150 ish K on it. Just the typical wheel well rust. Everything else is almost perfect besides the fact an old man drove it and used it as a service truck.
I also found a completely rust free low mile 72 Camper that I can rob some parts off of. I just need to convince the wife so I can pay the guy. it's a weird one where they didn't use the hole cab, the windshield and forward is there. Dash pad is perfect, grill is almost perfect, Hood just has some rust where the battery was. Power steering truck with no apparent leaking on the box, very nice steering wheel etc, montgomery wards AC system.... The camper part is shot and I can get it cheap. It does only have a 360 that appears to be locked up so I'll likely snag the heads and leave the block in it. Supposedly my 71 was parked due to a bad valve seat. With only 55k miles on the camper the heads should clean up decent enough to re-use for a few years.
TC it is! Nice 71! I, on the other hand, am a glutton for punishment, and have been rebuilding my 67 forever. If you need to waste some time, the build thread link is in my signature!

Pat, you know we could have saved you a dentist bill. Rob and I took an online dentistry course from a Dr. Pull in India. Included in the course was a "U-pull it" manual and a pair of small vise grips.

Smart move Pat, I took the same course! It wasn't Dentistry! I was Abduls course on how to get the best bang for the buck at the U-Pull-It-Yard! $25 and you got a 6 inch pair of vice grips and $30 you got 8 inch and a video on how to get any part off with them!
