5.0 Exhaust studs

Can anyone tell me if the exhaust studs are screwed into threaded inserts or if they go directly into the aluminum head material? I'm making some modifications with stainless steel exhaust bolts and need the correct antiseize.

Unfortunately directly into the head. Keep in mind if the stainless shears off you cannot weld to it, to be able to extract the part that snapped flush.

Thank you, sir. That's exactly what's on my mind and why I want the correct antisieze, just in case.

So be careful with my advice......If completly untouched, yes direct into head. If a shop did the job before they may have used some kind of coil or insert.

I am still undecided if I ever get a new ram or ford if I would ever reach out to ARP company and get fresh new high grade stainless and swap each stud out manually. However the risk is still there when you have to ditch over a snow bank or a dirt mound in an emergency and you bottom out on the cats, the studs will still snap off. How would you get them out is the million dollar question.

For my 4.6L mod motors in my 5 crown vics, I think the answer is to use regular steel and just change them evey few years (super easy when they are not seized up).
