Under Hood Question?

Have any of you either painted or decaled the word "PowerStroke" that is on the cover ahead of the fuel filter? I was looking the other day and though that this would be a nice enhancement to anyone that opened the hood. I tried to paint mine but didn't have the right paint or somthing because it looked like you know what when I got done. Cleaned it off and though I might ask here. Any ideas or suggestions?

Takes about 3 coats of model paint to really pop.

No matter how hard you try the paint is going to have trouble adhereing or looking right if the metal isn't chemically cleaned first. Most hobby & metal working shops have metal cleaner that will work for you. Also make sure you get a high heat paint, that will help your effort last for years.

Don't forget to show us how it came out!

i cleaned off my covew good, gave it a light sanding, applied a couple coats of high temp primer that i got at home depot, a few coats of high temp engine paint from wal-mart, and topped the lettering with a fine point paint marker. did it about 6 months ago and still looks great. link to pics in my sig

Going to try?

I thought I'd let all of you know that I took my cover into a sign company that make decals, pre-spaced letters etc. and ask them if they could reproduce the exact letters that are on the cover. They said if they messed with it long enought, they could probably do it and if it didn't work, I wouldn't owe them anything so I guess we will see what becomes of this. I'll let you all know when the verdict is in. My next thing to be concerned about is whether the heat from the motor and the air movement from the fan will allow them to stay put

Well I got my cover back today with bright red stick-on letters that are on the raised "powerstroke" letters . Sure looks good...time will tell whether they will stay on. Cost me $20

Trakman,
You ought to start selling them on e-bay?

Well, they told me that they had it archived on their computor so that if I needed it done again, it would be already set up. They said the big problem was getting the right angle as you know how the letters are sloped on that cover Heatstroked..the E-Bay deal sounds good...how much are you going to bid? LOL

I'm willing to pay for something like that. Let me know if your willing to do business.

Heatstroked is right, You could make some serious cash on E-bay. You might want to check the copyrights before doing it though.

Jlower...let's see if they stay on first. My big concern is engine heat and the air from the radiator fan blowing over the top of the cover. If you see some bright red letters flying by, you will know the end results
