Best carb option

So I searched the forums and didn’t find what I was looking for. I have a stock F100 with 292 and it has a 2bbl Holley carb (#1672). It’s been rebuilt a couple of times and I want to replace it. What are the best options for a new one? Should I be looking at a Holley 2300? Or is that different than what I have. The only numbers I could find on the carb are 1672 and C2TZE. Thanks for the help.

I have always been partial to the Autolite carbs, 2bbl 2100/ 4bbl 4100. They are not performance carbs, though, and not real tunable. That’s right up my alley, as I value simplicity and reliability above all. Easy to rebuild also.

Best option is to go with a 2 barrel efi.

2bbl EFI would be awesome but out of my price range. I’d like to replace the carb with another Holley but want a new one just not sure which model is best.

A stock carb for a 64, 292 would have been a C3 or C4 tag number so you don't have the original carb now. You should be able to get a 2bbl Holley or Autolite at about any parts house or rockauto. You can dig thru these list numbers and find out what you have maybe. Holley Carburetor Numerical Index (carbkitsource.com)

Not sure about your price range, but check out the deuces wild from Aces efi. They run alot of specials and discounts from time to time.

Ok thanks for the help and Holley reference guide. I figured out the Holley (2300) on my truck is a stock unit for 1957-59’ Ford trucks. It’s always ran so well with this carb so I think I’ll try rebuilding it one more time?

You didn't say why you want to replace it.
What's wrong with it?

I agree - try another rebuild. After you get it running like new you'll forget about FI. A little advice I can offer because of some recent agonies... you probably didn't replace the float during the first two rebuilds, so make absolutely sure there isn't even the tiniest hole or crack in the float, or be extravagant and buy a new one with the rebuild kit.

I figured since it’s been rebuilt a few times, is 60 + years old might as well go with a new Holley if I can? How difficult is a rebuild? It would be my first attempt. Good source for rebuild kit and float. Thanks again for the education.

Mike's carburetor parts.
Lots of parts. Lots of instructions online and with the kits. Helpful on the phone- like when you're trying to figure out exactly which kit and parts you need.
Rebuilding a carb isn't too hard, but it does take a lot of care, and sometimes plenty of patience to get the important small details right the first or second or third time.
You should go for it. Kits and parts aren't too expensive.

I have to add one bit of advice. When rebuilding, after putting the float in place, do not tip the carb. That's something I learned from a pro and relearned by mistake.

Rebuild is not difficult at all. You also don't need special tools and the kits are cheap. Mike's carb is a good place, but you can get rebuild kits almost everywhere.

On a carburetor that old with a lot of miles on it there are a couple of things to check before you attempt a re-build. First check the throttle shaft for play it shouldn't move more than a few thousands in the base plate. If it is worn it will need bushings to tighten it up or you will never be able to get it to idle right. Check the idle screws for tip damage and the seat in the metering block also. If the idle screw seat is damaged from tightening the idle screw into it, there again poor idle and transition. If those things are good clean her up and put a kit in it. If they are worn or damaged sent it to Mike's and they will fix all that when they re-build it.

So I’ve decided to conduct the rebuild myself but can’t find a rebuild kit for it because the P/N displayed a ford number and I can’t find a way to cross reference it to a Holley number. Perhaps someone can help determine which ford vehicle this carb came off of. The number is ford p/n c1te 9510k. It’s definitely a 2300 2bbl but which kit to buy is beyond me. Thanks again!
