Exh leak

Tearing down to change to a new t4 up pipe design from the old because I hear an exh leak back there. I have irate t4 conversion kit. They use a 2 piece down pipe. The actual down pipe side is leaking and prob where I get the smell of exh In the cab on start up, mostly. Anyone have any ideas on a cure? Not sure if there is a round gasket or I wonder if some high temp rtv or even that copper filled rtv or the spray on copper coating?

The turbo side seals, barely, but it does seal up.

There might have a small leak at the t4 gasket side as well.

Another interesting thing I just noticed with the new updated version of the t4 up pipes is they are ported/cut at an angle at the t4 merge. The original design is straight out. Not sure how much or if that makes any difference, but an interesting observation. Not sure how well it will show up in pics. Angled in and up or In And down...... just sitting in the box still.

I wonder if that heat wrap is getting in the way of the clamp seating all the way. The inside of the bend looks like the wrap is right up in there.

When I had an Irate kit it did the same, the flanges were warped from the welds. I sold that kit to @Loamranger , I believe he welded in the low spots and the resurfaced it all flat

I had to build up the low areas with weld and sand the flange flat. It seals up nice now. It was no where close to flat and barely touched the belt sander in picture #1.

Cannot find a leak in the old t4 up pipe. No crack that I can see and it was not leaking at the manifolds. What I was hearing and smelling must have been the dp and t4 gaskets leaks. The new t4 pipe definitely is an improvement over the original design. Like I said in another post, not knocking their produ to, just repeated what they told me. Based on what they told I suspected the up pipes more then anything else. I was wrong. Here are a few pics of the 2 together so you can see the differences.

Thank you for the excellent pics! Nice welds. Enjoy seeing the design changes.

The new ports could still benefit from some blending imo.
