Erratic Steering
I bought my 17 F450 with just under 40k on it, when I bought it the track bar was loose so I swapped it and the ball joint (Moog). I have only put 20k on it and I can't honestly say the steering has ever felt that great.
1) If I hit the rumble strip it is like it becomes impossible to steer. It takes big changes to get it to move off of it.
2) It tracks in grooves in the road really bad, it is like it seeks them despite where I steer it to go.
3) Just in general steering is a chore, it seems unpredictable. (Alignment?)
I noticed that the drag link has maybe 1/16" of vertical play in it so I guess I'll start there, but what I can't believe is the axle is able to move side to side at least 1/4" each way. The bushing in the track is still super tight, but the track ball joint allows it to move slightly side to side (not at all up and down). Does that mean this track bar ball joint is bad as well? If so are there brands better than Moog for the F450? A lot of aftermarket stop at F350. I can get the new Moog part under warranty but I don't want to replace it every 15k.
Thanks,
Jeff
