Hi have an 07' 3 valve V10. I changed the plugs and coil packs,
and discovered that 3 of the coil pack bolt hole / mounting spot
are broken, so the coil packs wiggle there way up and cause a misfire.
3 different garages have worked on it over the years so I have no clue
when it happened. Mech. probably got happy with the air ratchet I guess.
Anyways, has anyone else had this problem and maybe a fix.
If that intake is plastic the COP bolt inserts when over tightened "strip out" and no long allow the bolt to hold the COP to the spark plug. I fought this with a friend's 5.4 and never did find a DIY solution---not without replacing the intake manifold.
Dorman uses what are essentially sheet metal screws of their own design to secure COP's properly in place. Once the old inserts are removed and without causing further damage to the intake that might be one approach to take.
I thought all the V-10 intakes were cast aluminum? FWIW when I remove a COP for any reason I use only a 1/4" driver hand ratchet with a dab of dielectric grease on the bolt threads and just snug the bolts up, never over tightening them.
