Howdy............97 E150 has minimal air flow from a/c vents. I have replaced blower motor, resistor. and cleaned the evaporator coil to no avail. I have previously heard that the 1997 model had factory air duct issues. How do you clear this issue? My 2005 E150 blows harder on low speed than the 97 on high. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill
I don't know where or how an E-Series of that year and into 2013's as well could or would develop "issues" within the HVAC air ducts. I do know the diverting damper doors could develop operation issues causing noticeable reductions in flow through one of the vent options so that should be checked.
Here's an overview, drawings and photos of a typical vacuum controlled HVAC from 1997 forward: Vaccum Control Heater-A/C
Let me at it with some water and a blower nozzle with the blower motor out
You say you cleaned it out in there?
That is about all you can do, is clean it out and replace the blower motor
The airflow distribution is not the problem IMO unless air is leaking out other ducts when in panel
^^If the distribution control surfaces (blend door, defrost, vent/floor etc.) aren't working properly that could possibly cause the poorly described symptoms OP posts about. Its also conceivable the inlet under the exterior cover trim just below the windshield has an obstruction.
I found cleaning the evaporator was tricky. My compressed air blower nozzle would not fit so I used 1/4 plastic tubing and a ball valve to blast air through the corners of the evaporator. Check your work with an inspection mirror or a boroscope (connected to cell phone... about $30). Tree seeds and debris had clogged my evaporator over the years.
