Needing help

Hello 👋
I recently traded my 2016 f150 eco boost for a 2008 Chevy HHR (I gave to a friend in need)
Ford Four Winds RV (I'm trying to venture off out west)
And the stunningly beautiful 1996 F250 7.3L Power Stroke obs
I'm new to the OBS family and I'm exited to be a part of it. I'm having an issue though, my brake lights will not shut off. I've tried pulling fuses I've tried wiggling the pin on the pedal... I have not played with wires, I've just been pulling the bulbs out when she's gonna be parked for a long time... any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Did you unplug the brake pedal connector? Did the lights go off when you do? If unplugging it turned the lights off then the switch is probably bad. If unplugging did not affect it, then you probably have some wires rubbing together that are feeding the circuit. You will have to start chasing wires and find the short. I hope it is just the switch.

Hi Ben,
thank you for the advice. Unfortunately I have done everything aside from chasing wires. I don't even know how to start? It hasn't stopped raining in my town for days it seems so that doesn't help me any at all. . .

I should add, when I step on my brake pedal I hear air release, is that normal? Also, I had to pass my street yesterday because my truck didn't slow nearly enough as it should have for me to make my turn. So is there a bigger issue happening? I thought it was from the rain but abs didn't kick in, brakes just didn't slow me down enough.

What happened when you unplugged the connector on the brake pedal?

did the brakes feel firm or did the pedal go to the floor?

The lights stayed on when I unplugged the switch.

The brakes are never firm. Not ever. Always like a deflated air bag or something...

I found out today that there is a brake device wired in for trailer brakes and that is where my problem seems to be. I messed with it for a bit and my lights went off. But now they don't work when I brake, so I don't know what the heck is going on. I'm surprisingly mechanically inclined, but electrical is something my daddy didn't mess with so I'm in the dark ..

Hissing noise is likely brake booster. When you push down on pedal it pushes rod in and pressurizes the MC. At that same connection point it also activates the connection for the brake light switch. How does the tranny shift? The brake switch directly affects Torque converter too. Due you have a the “brake” indicator light on the dash?

Booster. This is where it connects to the pedal.

Switch. This is connected to the pedal at same point as booster.
