Trans code M is a Mazda manual 5 dpeed overdrive. Axle code 24 iis'nt listed in my book, maybe someone else knows. I know the oil pans aren't the same on car and truck engines either.

24 is a 5400-lb axle with 3.73 gears.

M should not be used on a '93 Econoline. According to my CD, options are:
G - C-6
T - AOD
E - E4OD
U - 4R70W (AODE-W)

"Open" means an open differential. Read this.

3800 lbs is the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for 1/2-ton truck axles. Alone, it means the axle is either the 9" or the 8.8". But considering that the 9" wasn't made after '86, we know it has to be the 8.8".

Setting up a differential

It's not something an amateur should attempt. Only after watching a pro several times should you attempt to do it, and then ONLY using all the proper tools and specificiations.

The typical cost to have a diff set up professionally is $250-500, and considering the risk if you do it wrong, it's worth it.
