We must have gotten all the good ones here in rural VA.
My long time friend is a manager at a Ford dealership and has sold 17 trucks equipped with the 7.3 since 2021 including mine.
He claims to have replaced a couple of windshields and that's it, no mechanical issues.
The design of the variable pump has the fail mode to max psi/volume, the actuator is energized to move the vanes and lower the pressure. If you think the failure is related to oil pressure, you can disconnect the actuator for free and you'll have maximum oil pressure all the time.
Well that is a simple, cost effective fix as long as the ECU does not see an actuator failure. However, as long as there are not excessive idle times consistently, like hours at a time every day, 🙄 prolly most will likely not see any problems. Hopefully.
I'm 99% sure the ECU will see if the actuator is disconnected and throw a code. Whether or not that code will have any effect on the operating parameters or even turn on the light I have no idea. I have one on order but it isn't built yet

Surely there's a way to defeat the switch and not throw a code.
Well since the signal to the actuator would have to be modulated i.e. "variable ratio" it seems it would be kind of difficult to simulate the load to the ECU? Guessing the input variable would be engine rpm, does the ECU output a discrete signal to a relay arrangement to fire the actuator? In that case, it should be simple to disconnect the signal to the actuator to provide full output oil pressure at all times. Is it a solution in search of a problem?
When I get my truck (built already) I will just drive it and not worry about it until or unless further information sheds light on this.
Well there ya have it. 22 psi at idle, full output on startup. So any lifter problems should not be due to insufficient oil pressure, assuming oil passages sized for adequate flow under idle conditions.
I added the SEIC high idle resistor and wired it to an upfitter switch to set the idle at 1200 RPMS for extended idle times. Im hoping this will help until they come out with the software update for the 2022s.
I just want a job where someone will pay me to sit in a truck for 3-6 hours a day. lol
If you were directing the comment my way. There's always more than just sitting at times and during those sitting times you might need to solve issues or make a plan for another crew 500-1000 miles away.
When you want something becareful it's what you really want. After what seems like a lifetime and in the home stretch. Living out of a suitcase in hotel rooms for 200+/- days a year. Phone on call 24/ 7/ 365 to the crews still out moving the football ahead. Answering to someone else why something happened because someone didn't following simple safety rules. Miss so many family events of the kids when they were growing up. Deaths in family because by the time you traveled back they passed. Yea... what an easy job sitting in a truck at times. 👌
Many guys probably right here on this forum living this lifestyle so their family can maybe have something more or just pay the bills.
But then I wouldn't have worked in and seen all continental states at least twice meeting many fantastic folks and even an occasional ahole. From the big cities to some deliverance looking places. America is still a great place even though it seems there are many trying to ruin it. 😉
Enough of a morning ramble, off to sitting in a truck. LOL

We all make choices in life and it sounds like you made a good one...
I drove a semi for about 20 years... 48 states and Canada. We were at a Dairy Queen in NM... the young girl behind the counter was talking to the couple in front of us (a husband/wife trucker team) and she commented that she wished she had a job where all she had to do was sit and smoke cigarettes all day...
Watching the above video where the oil pressure was taken at the oil filter housing. In the past I've always picked up oil pressure somewhere on the top of the block front or back.
