I have a 1995 F150 4x4 with a e4od transmission that make a thunking sound around every third time I go from park to reverse, especially on hills. how close is it to just grenading itself?
Good question. Have you checked for trouble codes? Have you checked for other caused of the clunk, like motor mounts, transmission mount, u-joint, bell housing bolts, driveshaft center support bearing?

There's currently no codes but I can always check it again when I get off. All the motor and transmission mounts appear to be alright and all associated bolts that I could feel were tight but I haven't thoroughly checked the center support bearing or the u-joint, I'll update this afternoon. Thank you very much brother
Update: still no codes and all the trans mounts still look good, the only concerning thing is that it looks like teres buildup of oil on the front of the bell housing where the trans and motor link up but there's no visual leak I can find and my trans fluid stays at the proper level I've tried to always check it every once in a while since I got the truck
