Hot!!! Pepper ????

OK, Guys, A question........

I was munching on some Jalapeno Peppers this evening, and they were delicious, however the after shock was HOT.... Then as I was totally hotted out, I took a chug on the Luisianna hot sauce, and the heat from the peppers went.. Why is that? I took the chug because of a remembered cure to hot food, that some guy told me in Singapore about 20 years ago. I didn't believe him then, but I sure do now.. so how does taking a less hot food, make the heat from a really hot food go away.

And.... does anyone know a good sauce hotter than Franks?

That's interesting about the hot sauce chaser, I might have to try that sometime. I do know water makes the heat worse, but milk helps. (kills the acid)

I don't think I've had Franks, but my wife's buffalo wing sauce probably ranks right up there. I have no idea what she puts in it except a piece of chocolate (only part that interested me!), but I can't eat it when she's done.

Have you ever tried Datil Pepper sauce from St. Augustine? That's one I like.

Re: Hot!!! Pepper ????

I dunno Theo. It could be a fig newton of your imagination!

but anyway . . .

"Melindas Hot Sauce"

Scotch Bonnett peppers.

Theo, this stuff is so hot it makes the glass bottle it comes in feel kind of soft and pliable.

http://www.melindas.com/

I actually lived down there when the product hit the market locally and got ~hooked~. . . it was 50 cents (US) a bottle. Wow - the good old days, I guess.

. . oh I have found it occasionally in Publix, too.

(ON EDIT: Wow. I see they are owned by folks in LA now. Dang, my sauce stock and familiarity with it comes from BELIEZE where it was born - all endorsements are off. LA is where they make that tourist grade red stuff called "Louisiana Hot Sauce". Eeech.)

Maybe the milder acid washes away the hotter acid.

Bread also does a good job of absorbing the "heat".

Please, no posting of any "distress" you may encounter in the morning

In Morroco they give you plain yogurt to temper a spicy dish. I find it to work the best, although anything absorbent like bread is good too. Water is of course, the worst, as it merely spreads the oils around. I make my own hot sauce using home grown Habenero peppers and Glenfiddich Scotch...its pretty thermonuclear.

That sounds interesting.. I do not know why, but since cutting out all sugars, and most grains, I can take hot stuff way hotter than I could..

I love things hot now..

Try these sites for a variety of hot sauces.

Firegirls
http://store.yahoo.com/hotsaucecatalog/

or

HOT N' SPICY and Beverage
http://members.visi.net/~mandy/food.html

You should be able to not only find a sauce that suits you, but you can really learn a lot about the peppers, heat rating, etc.

If you like hot, you should try a product called "Pure Cap." Its a capsasin extract that is rated at 500,000 Scoville units (100 times that of a jalapeno).

Here's a link: click here

(oh yeah, BTW, its hot enough that they make you sign a waiver before you can buy it )

As far as flavor and hot, my wife prefers "Orange Crush" believe me it doesn't taste like oranges, she also likes "Daves Insanity Sauce" never tried it, I'm not that stupid, I like "Crystal hot suace" it's got good flavor and it's not crazy hot. try it on pop corn, it's realllllll good. most grocery stores carry it.

To put out the fire the old trick we always do is smoke a cigarette guarenteed to put the fire out by the end of the smoke.

Let ME tell you about that PURE CAP..........STAY AWAY FROM IT!!

This is the Gods honest truth...
One day at work I decided to test how hot it was... I may be a moron but I am not totaly insane. So I found a willing subject that agreed to test it...I took a TOTH PICK....Dipped the TIP...JUST THE POINT OF it no more. The amount on the tip was so small you could HARDLY see it. The guy put it on his tongue..JUST TOUCHED his tongue with it..Now this guy is liked hot stuff I should add....Needless to say HE RAN INTO THE BATHROOM AND BLEW CHOW EVERYWHERE...The directions on the bottle say something to the effect of "add ONE DROP to a GALLON of chili."

As far as something hotter than Franks, they cameout with a new one called Franks "Extra Hot"...... Theres always, DAVES INSANITY SAUCE too...............

For those that don't know, THE ORIGINAL RECIPE FOR BUFFALO WINGS IS 3 PARTS FRANKS RED HOT and 2 PARTS BUTTER...

THATS IT!!!!!!!

The Hottest stuff is...........357 Mad Dog

I got an idea-Just get a can of pepper spray for self defense and mist your food with it.

I like hot, but someone brought in this green mail order paprika concentrate extract (hotter than the peppers themselves).

Put some on a cracker- turned my face red for a few minutes. That was hot!

Anybody also like that Chinese hot mustard- different hot but love it all the same.

I have had Oleo Capsicum on food before (the ingredient of OC defense spray - it was good, but a little chemical tasting. I will look out for the Xtra hot Franks, but I may well avoid the CAP... I am not usually so adventurous with food, but this new found tolerance of pepper sauce has got me excited. I am having no adverse reactions to the stuff, no heartburn, no runs, no exit burning.. Maybe I changed into a different person overnight..

Chinese hot mustard is something else.. That stuff is hot, but makes a better emetic than food stuff.
