Hullo all. After 18 years of owning various Superduties, and running them all through car washes of all kinds, a car wash today broke my antenna. I haven't had a chance to get in and look at it yet (it's over 100 degrees, and will be for the foreseeable future!!!). But it looks pretty solidly broken at the base. I will look more into it as I get a chance, but I wanted to get a jump start here. Is there a schematic that shows how the antenna is connected to the fender? Can that base be replaced? Any other suggestions while I wait for the weather to cool down enough to actually look at it and work on it? It is not immediately an issue as I listen to XM/Sirius/Streaming anyway, but I do want to get it fixed properly.
The antenna itself has a male thread into the fender receptacle. Maybe you can drill out and remove with an “easy out.” They make tiny drills that drill counterclockwise.
Ford says that the entire cable needs to be removed and replaced, much bigger pain than it has to be. You can remove and replace just the antenna base, reusing the cable. The base comes with the new cable but it's much easier to just reuse the existing.

I once had one of those rubber stubby antennas. It didn't make through the third trip at the car wash. I put the stocker back on and have never had an issue since.
So I guess it's possible for them all to fail now and then.
Never run your F#50 through a car wash with the antenna mounted. There's a video out there showing a guys truck that was literally whipped with the antenna after the rotating brush ripped it off his truck. Nothing he could do but wait until the end.

I don't need the antenna. I already bought a shorter 27" antenna. It works fine. I just need the base replaced so I can mount the antenna again. But thanks.
Instead of rerouting the cable to the radio, I just pulled cable from bottom of base
Thanks. This looks like what I need. I have to get in there and look and see exactly where it broke though. And like I said, it's too dang hot out there to do this right now. But I at least have the part number now. As long as that is exactly what is broken.

Thanks. I really do not want to be rerouting that cable. I can just imagine the horror now!!

Yeah, I tried a stubby too. Did not like it. I got an antenna that looks just like the original, only it's 27", so it doesn't stick out so far above the trick.

Yeah yeah. Some car washes would remove it before running the truck through. But I never had a problem with it on until this last one. I guess I'll have to start carrying a wrench around to remove it before running it through. Thanks.

but that’s how everything in life is. It isn’t a problem until it’s a problem.
My car wash will not let you go through with the antenna attached. They stop you at the entrance and hand you a crescent wrench to remove the antenna.
I replaced our antenna with the rubber stubby antenna and the few times I went through a car wash with our 350 SRW I just unsceded it by hand. I will not go through with the dually.

On a previous truck I removed the antenna, twisted the ball off the top and then cut the antenna down. Epoxied the ball back on and was good to go. It was hitting the top of the garage door opening every time I pulled in.
When I got the current 2022 I noticed that the antenna was shorter from the factory and didn't hit anything anymore. But I do notice that one of the local FM stations doesn't come in well at all in this truck but it seems fine with my 2007 Mustang and 2001 Town Car with aftermarket head units.
