I think that the glow plugs will draw more than the alternator can keep up with at idle. I wouldn't worry about the straight battery voltage reading with the relay closed.

Max draw from the GP's can be as high as 200 amps. Which will steadily drop the longer they are on. Seeing anything in the 11's for voltage while the GP's are on is totally normal.

Edit: Oh, and there is a full color detailed engine harness wiring diagram up in the tech section. It's come in handy more than once. I've gone so far as to download copies of it to my laptop and phone so if I need it I don't have to worry whether I've got an internet connection.
