Ihave a 80 f-250 with a 400 in it I am wanting to put a 100 amp alternator in it can I put one in it with a built in regulater in it if so how do I wire it up since my regulater is now on the inner fender? thanks DAVE
Older alternators from Ford and GM came with seperate regulators. Gm started converting theirs to internal in the early 70's, but Ford stuck with the external regulator till I think the late 80's.
You can definitely wire this internal reg alt up, but try to find a diagram of the vehicle it came out of.
The large output wire will hook up in the same place. It's the small wire or wires you have to get right. One of them might be a voltage sensing wire. If you have another small wire, it might go to the ignition switch to turn the alt on and off. Try to find out what you have.
