My wife's explorer started acting up last week. She called me from work and said it wouldn't stay running unless she stayed on the gas. As soon as she'd let off the gas it would stall. I had her limp it to a local garage(stalling at every stop sign or downgrade because she was off the gas). They couldn't check it out until the next day and of course then it ran fine.
Well, it's doing it again and now I've witnessed it for myself(thought she might be dreamin'). It has been filled with a new tank of gas since last week so I'm eliminating water in the gas as an idea. It will start right up but shut right off if you don't stay on the gas. Yet, this morning I ran the RPM's up to 4000 a few times and then it stayed running almost as though something was stuck? She drove it to work this morning with no problems but stalled the whole way home tonight again even after she revved it several times to 4000 rpm. Could anyone help me out or help diagnose this problem? The check engine light hasn't come on so no use taking it to the dealer and spend the $ hooking up to the computer! Where to start? Sounds like fuel problem but would something be sticking(choke or something) or should I run some injector cleaner through it? Help!!!
kclyki02,
I'm brand new to the board and also dumb as a board so please tell me what the IAC sticky is and also what is the MAF? I can handle the vacuum tree.
the IAC is the idle air control. on the topic selection list for this board the 2nd one down is sticky'd, its called IAC repair help. that should be it.
