The truck in question is still bone stock beleave it or not. When I got it it had 31x10.5 LT tires on it and the speedo was off about 1-2 mph. I had thought that the organal owner had not accounted for the bigger tyre size and left the speedo alone & thats why it was off.
I recently got new tires for it and went back to the stock size of P235/75. Now the speedo is off by about 3mph.
Currently the ABS light is on all the time. So 2 questions:
1) Does the ABS tone ring feed into the speedo side at all on the '90's?
2) Is the speedo on the '90 a gear driven or vss? Im getting conflicting information doing online searches.
If the ABS lamp is on all the time on your 1990 you need to pull the code out of the RABS module, and it most likely needs a new RABS valve on the frame under your seat
The mechanical speedo is driven by a cable from the trans/t-case in this vintage truck and 1-2mph off is well within spec.. they all read high and most are off more than that.
