I usually spend my time on the 87-96 section here but my wifes truck and its problems has led me here. She has a 2020 F-150 5.0 crew cab, we have owned it since it was 6 months old and it had 5,000 miles on it, it was a demo at the dealership a manager was driving it. Anyway whats going on is a few months ago it wouldn't go into reverse you could give it a minute and try again and it would work. Took it to the dealer and they said that reprograming it should fix it. Well that worked for a few months next time same thing happened. Back to the dealer this time they replaced the valve body same thing worked for a couple months and one morning no reverse. Back to the dealership now they say its time for a new transmission, then they tell me its on back order and they dont know when they will get one. Forgot to mention that this all started at 22,000 miles and now it has 30,000 miles on it. I dont have any faith in the new trans being any better than the original I dont think I am going to keep the truck they just dont seem to be made to last anymore, you would think as much as they cost they would be better than they were. I have a 1993 ford ranger and a 1990 F-150 5.0 and you cant beat them sure you have things that go wrong time to time but its always something I can fix. Just wandered if anyone else has had similar issues.

You're not alone, but you are in a minority or we'd have endless bad transmission threads on here (folks don't generally post that everything is just peachy). Sorry you are having this problem with your 10 speed, but I'm betting a new trans, when it does come in, will solve your issue. Best of luck to you...
I have the 10R80 in my 20 F150 with the 2.7l EcoBoost. So far, it's a decent transmission. I can get 21mpg on the highway driving conservatively. The worst feature of the transmission is that it searches for the correct gear when I'm going 20-35 mph in neighborhoods. Whenever it's searching it will clunk into gear.
My wife took her 2019 Fiesta to the local auto repair shop for a transmission flush at 60k miles. I'm hoping the 10R80 in my F150 can last another 15k miles. Then I'll take it in and have them do the same transmission service.
If there's a fluid or mechanical issue with the transmission at that low mileage, a flush isn't going to help it at all.
Have you noticed any differe3nce in the "clunkiness" of the transmission when in sport mode, tow mode, or when driving more aggressively? Maybe a re-learn can help?

This transmission is not the smoothest-that's for sure. Whenever anyone ever has any transmission concerns-the "pat answer" seems to be to change the fluid. The way this transmission is programed-a fluid change will not help. We agree!
For those of you experiencing clunking up or down shifts (frequent): ours was fixed by the dealer with a software update and/or a re-learn - every once in a great while will we get a clunk on a shift and it is usually under light and transitioning throttle. Take it to your dealer...
Even though re-programming by a dealer is recommended to fix clunking, isn't it good practice to have the fluid flushed early as well? 150k miles before changing the transmission filter and fluid like the C6 in my Bullnose truck is probably asking for trouble.

Absolutely! I think the point was meant to say that a fluid flush won't fix clunking shifts - but doing trans fluid/filter changes early is always a good thing...

That's probably the clearest way to say this. New fluid can't hurt, but may not help with some types of complaints.
I might mention the clunking my truck does next time I have it at the dealer. But I think the gear searching and clunking I've experienced is just a sign that the 10R80 is "rough around the edges" vs. a critical failure that the OP is experiencing.

Hey! I can take a closer look into your clunking noise concerns if you'd like. Can you send us a direct message with your VIN and the dealership name/location? To send a private message, just click on our username and select "Send a Private Message to Ford Motor Co".

3,000 mile oil changes-frequent transmission fluid changes can also be called "money flushes" as they are not necessary.
I suppose 3,000 mile oil changes are a thing of the past. Then again, I'm not interested in using a roll of toilet paper in the oil filter cartridge on my 2.7l EcoBoost engine. Motorcraft or Wix thank you very much.
Here's a good video on why oil changes should be done regularly on a 3.5l EcoBoost engine. I imagine the 2.7l EcoBoost is similar. FWIW, I have the oil changed in my truck every 6,000-7,500 miles. My oil life monitor still generally has 20%+ remaining.
