400 into highboy
I have a 72 F250 4x4 with a very tired 67 390 in it. Right now I need the truck for winter cause the plow is on this truck. I have a very good running 400 in a 78 F250 4x4 parts truck that I would like to put in my 72. I'd love to rebuild that 390 and put it back in but I just don't have the funds to do it now. What is involved in doing this swap? I believe I have all the parts to do it between the two trucks. My main concern in the motor mount towers, do they need to be replaced with the ones out of the 78 and if so are the holes there in the frame already? Is the front cross member in the way for this swap? Any help would be great.

My '72 has a 400 in it, it has custom motor mounts that were welded together out of steel plate. You'll need to make mounts.
I am not positive, but I don't think a 400 will mate up to your current transmission, however.

The 390 and the 400 have different bell housing bolt patterns so you will need the bell housing ect. from the 400. If you could find a late 77 highboy V8 it should have the right engine towers in it, otherwise I think you may have to do some fabricating.

Thanks for the replies, I have the correct bell housing for the np 435 and the 400. So you think the low boy towers will be different then the highboy towers for a 400?
