I just got an 81 door from a junkyard for my 83 F-250. My old doors have the lock on top while the new one has the lock on the side. I have already switched the lock cylinders. When the door is locked it will not unlock except by pulling on the inside door handle. It will lock by either using the key out side or the **** inside. The key will turn most of the way from the outside but will not unlock it. I tried that repeatedly many times and it worked only on the first time. I took the door panel back off and tried pulling on the rod inside to no avail. I sprayed the pivot with PB blaster, which didn't help at all. It feels like something is mechanically holding it. Please give me any ideas, Thanks.
If its scraping the top of the hole, it will bind. Do you have the correct linkage on it also? If its too long it will not tranvel far enough to go down, ALSO if you put the tail piece on backwards, (Upside Down) and the top cap isn't facing upwards, then you have it upside down and the tailpiece has to be switch too to match it.
on my 84 1/2 ton, my door key works fine on the passenger door (which has sagging hinges), and works only when it absolutely wants to on the driver door. any suggestions?
On the drivers door lock, the pins are worn as is the key, sometimes debre inside (like dirt that is attracted to WD40 or light oil....) Even a bent key will do this. The drivers side lock is used mostly, so it gets the most wear, thus this is the reason why it works sometimes and othertimes its feels tight or won't turn.
The solution is simple but twofold, You can try if you have a bent key, a locksmith to recut it on a original keyblank, or have a locksmith rekey it. If you take it off and bring it to any lockshop, it wouldn't take 30 min to do it and the cost is less than two 12 packs of pepsi. Your choice.....or wait till it breaks your key in half.
You or mebie someone else had a hardware or a walmart (Key Cutter) made the dupicate key, their machine or the Key Cutter had too many kegs the night before and couldn't see to cut the key right, like I said above, take the lock out, have a locksmith recut the key or repin the lock to the original code and it will work the other side as well.......the lock isn't expensive to rekey.

Get the other locks that went to the doors in the first place and have a locksmith make you a set of keys...then put them in the door....There is a code stamped on the pass cylinder that a locksmith can make you a set of keys to. It is sometimes hard to see if it has grime an dirt on it, but it will be stamped near the cylinder pin stack and it will start with a FA or FB series with 4 numbers beside it. The key head will be the H50 key.
